Pick N Mix is a tasty selection of free, online workshops run by members of the ODM community where you’ll get introduced to a new tool, resource or skill in a fun and friendly way.
Back by popular demand after a pilot series during the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, the first events in Season 2 will see us getting more out of Google Sheets, trying out Python for a spot of text mining and demystifying machine learning.
The format varies from week to week, but expect a mixture of presentations and practical exercises from local experts, which you can either complete during the sessions supported by the workshop lead, or do in your own time.
The workshops happen on Zoom and are interactive, but they will also be recorded, with any accompanying materials made openly available to be accessed later on.
As each session has a different flavour, so it’s worth checking out in advance any skill or knowledge requirements, or if it’s recommended to install software in advance.
Sessions:
- Tuesday 24 November 2020 – Tricks and hacks for Google Sheets with Mor Rubinstein, 360Giving.
- Tuesday 1 December 2020 – Text-mining in Python with Dr Julia Kasmire, UK Data Service.
- Friday 4 December 2020 – Data sonification – how to make a song with data using R
- Tuesday 8 December 2020 – Machine learning fundamentals in R with Nathan Khadaroo-McCheyne, University of Manchester.
Be sure to follow us on Twitter for additions to the schedule. You can also catch up on previous sessions.
We’ll also be running Season 3 in Spring 2021, so if you have a tool, project or passion that you’d like to share, get in touch!
