Toyebat Adewale, our User Researcher and Community Engagement Worker, attended Open Data Camp 9 this year. She wrote this insightful blog about her experience:
Ok, so I won’t list 101 things, but I attending Open Data Camp was an absolute delight!
Held at the MEDC buildings on the University of Manchester campus, the event truly embodied the spirit of an “unconference” filled with lively conversations and engaging discussions. It was fantastic to see familiar faces from my network and to meet new people who brought unique perspectives and backgrounds to the table. What united us all was a shared enthusiasm and a friendly vibe that really describes the entire ODC weekend.
I took part in several sessions, with my favourite being “Managing Multilingual Datasets: What You Need to Consider.” I also had the pleasure of leading a session on “How to Keep People and Ourselves ‘Safe’ When Collecting Data,” which was really rewarding. On the Sunday I took part in a Joy Diversion run by Julian Tait, not the first but equally refreshing. My team explored nature and came across UoM allotment which had strawberries, rhubarb and more.
The freedom to take part in sessions you want, take a breather and even explore outdoors was a great introduction to the event.
You can find out more about the sessions here from the Data Camp Blogs and the rest of the team’s experience at Open Data Camp.
A huge thank you to the organisers, sponsors, caterers, and servers who made the event possible. Your hard work was greatly appreciated and made the weekend a definite success.
